I was having a conversation about general health with some family members that I haven’t seen in a while and we ended up discussing circadian biology.
They had no idea what this crucial field of study and fundamental aspect of health was before I brought it up and explained it to them.
It reminded me of how few people know about circadian biology.
Even less grasp its importance within the grand scheme of well-being.
Every cell and organ in your body operates on a biological call which is dictated by light and darkness. This rhythm touches every single aspect of your health from digestion to mood to energy production to sleep.
We are diurnal creatures.
In other words, we evolved to follow the rhythm of the sun and orient our lifestyle around its graceful, life-giving movement.
Your relationship (or lack thereof) with light largely determines your health.
I have lived on both ends of the spectrum.
In my youth, there would be times where sleep wasn’t the priority and I was cooped up inside without a ray of sunshine touching my skin. I despise that sort of lifestyle because it doesn’t fully allow you to tap into the human experience.
As I got older and grew wiser, my schedule mimicked the sun and I felt incredible.
My best moments and flow states are almost always found outdoors.
I’m a firm believer circadian biology holds more weight than nutrition, hydration, training and supplementation.
It’s woven into our DNA.
Furthermore, it’s the most fundamental duality in nature.
There’s no light without darkness and vice versa.
Rather than disrespecting this rhythm, work with it.
Harmonize your life in accordance to the cyclical nature of both the sun and the moon. The ritual of going to bed early and waking early taps into something special that puts you echelons above most people.
Your body will thank you for this.
Your mind will thank you for this.
Your spirit will thank you for this.
I can’t think of a more important lifestyle change to make.. and that’s saying something considering how obsessed I am with the health game.
Normally, I would call this the 80/20 of health, yet it’s more like 99/1.
Much love,
Zaid
