I’ve mentioned in previous articles that melanin is found throughout the body because it serves as nature’s most incredible and versatile biopolymer. This article will show you the depth involved.

Melanin & Hearing

Melanin is present in the stria vascularis of the cochlea, where it plays a role in ion homeostasis, particularly in potassium recycling, which is essential for proper auditory function.

Think about this:

Without melanin, you can’t have senses.

In the substantia nigra and locus coeruleus of the brain, melanin rich neurons regulate neurotransmitter function, including dopamine and norepinephrine, which influence sensory perception, including hearing.
