There’s plenty of technical talk about health with a focus on the specific tactics to improve sleep, hydration, training, so forth.
But this article is going to be a deep dive on the mental side of the game.
How you think about health is tantamount to holistic health.
I would place it as the foundation because, without a proper mentality, you’re sure to repeatedly stumble in an attempt to fix your sleep, hydration, nutrition and all other fundamentals.
Mindset Shift #1: Manage Your Expectations
You’re with the body you carry for the rest of your life.
If you’re dealing with a chronic ailment that is able to be reversed, you must manage your expectation to that of the long game. The problem won’t be solved in two weeks or even two months (depending on the condition).
It’s going to take multiple years for you to find the truth about a healthy, holistic lifestyle. That is unless you sign up for my coaching where I make it a point to use my expertise for relatively quick results.
Think in years, not days or weeks.
Mindset Shift #2: Work The Fundamentals
With anything you do, you must work the fundamentals.
Health is no exception.
There are a handful of areas that matter most:
Sleep
Hydration
Nutrition
Movement & Training
Supplementation
Detoxification

Forget about the short term hacks and details that really don’t matters.
Always keep your eye on the big health levers.
Mindset Shift #3: It’s A Battle
Make no mistake about it, most of us will unfortunately have some health problem to various degrees. God forbid it’s serious.
If it’s not, you have a chance to take preventative measures to avoid serious chronic outcomes by maintaining a healthy lifestyle right now.
You must battle to overcome health problems.
By battle, I mean keep a strong head on your shoulders. Understand that a diagnosis is not permanent and can be changed. Any symptom you’re dealing with right now can be dissolved with the right approach.
Every healthy decision you make is another form of defense against ill health.
Mindset Shift #4: Appreciate Health Education
Educating yourself on these subjects is crucial.
Your doctors, your parents, your friends and the mainstream media won’t serve you in this endeavor because their trapped in conventional ideology.
To have a grasp on the truth here, it’s mandatory to slowly educate yourself over the course of years. Understand the basics, think for yourself, bounce ideas off of wise people who have an expertise in the field and experiment.
Mindset Shift #5: Be Holistic In Your Approach
Most people, especially professionals in the field, approach health from a reductionist standpoint. In other words, they are blind to how everything is connected in the body.
Take the opposite approach.
Be as holistic as you can be. Notice how oral health relates directly to gut health and vice versa. Notice how what you eat in the morning impacts your mood a few hours later. Begin to make these connections and expand your understanding of health.
Always see the forest from the trees.
