This article is written off a fantastic Twitter space I had a few days back called ‘Eyesight Regeneration.’
I am not an opthamologist and have no certification related to the eyes and eyesight, but I have studied this subject in depth and have a perspective that goes against centralized ophthalmology.
I do not speak on rare genetic eye diseases or have all the answers to many of the chronic eye conditions people struggle with today.
With that being said, the philosophy I have developed around eyesight and how to regenerate it is powerful. I have seen it work in myself, my clients, and people who have taken my suggestions and reported back the results to me.
This is the only article you’ll ever need to make sure that your eyesight is excellent.
Many people, especially those in the Western world, believe that regeneration of the eyes is not possible. I believe it is considering what I’ve experienced and seen in other people.
They also largely believe that many of the common eye conditions are a manifestation of genetics. While that is true for many of the rare cases, it’s not true for common place ones like age related macular degeneration, myopia, farsightedness, nearsightedness, so forth.
Your eyes are the gateway to the body.
The same can be said for the skin.
Your eyes are also a muscle, so your lifestyle dictates the performance and strength of that muscle. It should be viewed in the same manner as muscle tissue.
Lastly, your eyes are a part of the brain, making them one and the same. Whatever you do to impact the eyes will inevitably have knock-on effects with the brain and vice versa.
Drill this into your psyche: Eye regeneration is possible, but only assuming you have the right protocol in place, built upon the foundation of circadian biology.
Centralized ophthalmology is far from perfect, as with any area involving the scientific community. It’s a siloed profession which uses a reductionist philosophy to understand and treat the eye.
They will never get to the heart of truth because you need to apply holism to your understanding of the eye in relation to every other aspect of the body.
Ophthalmologists never speak to cardiologists. Cardiologists never speak to urologists. These professions do not cross-pollinate their ideas to create a better philosophy. Reductionism and corruption is at the root of centralized medicine’s problems. That’s why they’re unable to solve many ocular issues and resort to the use of reading glasses and other tools.
The irony of centralized ophthalmology is that their perspective is myopic.
These people do not study the current scientific literature. If they did, then they would be compelled to move in the direction I’m taking this work. Human biology is unfathomably complex, making it a perfect system. Arguably the most perfect biological system in the Universe.
Ophthalmologists, at large, do not understand how the following works:
Mitochondria
Non-visual photoreceptors (opsins)
Light wavelengths (UV-A, UV-B, violet, red, NIR)
Melanin
Melatonin
You cannot comprehend the full picture of the eye if you do not understand these foundational biological concepts.
The good news is that all of the literature is available to you. Once you can gain a grasp of the basics, then you can use that understanding to facilitate eye regeneration for better eyesight and an improved quality of life.
I have never heard an ophthalmologist speak on the fact that there are mitochondria in the retinal ganglion cells and optic nerve head within the eye. Furthermore, I have never heard one speak on how those mitochondria use red and NIR light to create ATP for biological function of the eye.
I have never heard an ophthalmologist speak about the role of light in relation to the opsins within the eye for various things like neurotransmitter production, hormone production, so forth.
I certainly have never heard an ophthalmologist speak about sunlight in a positive manner, nor the specific light wavelengths involved and their biological benefit.
The wild thing about this discussion is that ophthalmologists use UV and red light therapy to help facilitate the healing process with various conditions, most notably chronic inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
Now you can grasp how poorly they understand this game.
They’re divorced from the full light spectrum provided by the sun because they’re taught that it’s inherently damaging to the body. It’s worsened by the fact that they never question the conventional narrative and don’t go out of their way to research in their spare time.
While ultraviolet-A (UV-A) and ultraviolet-B (UV-B) are demonized, they have no clue that VIOLET light is protective of the eye from myopia because it activates the EGR1 gene.
The available literature on photobiomodulation (red light therapy) is astounding, especially for the improvement of eyesight.
Mitochondria in the eye use red and NIR light for proper function to create ATP in the final complex of the electron transport chain.
Melanin is found near the optic nerve head as well, and it needs sunlight to create all of the benefits associated with melanin production.
3 minutes of 670 nm AM sunlight exposure resulted in a 17% improvement in color contrast vision. What most don’t appreciate about this study is that the benefit of this SINGLE exposure lasted for up to ONE week.
Compound that benefit as you do this for days, weeks, months, and years, and it’s no surprise why somebody such as myself has near perfect vision.
Aligning yourself with the light and dark cycle is key. If you are not aligned with how your body works from a circadian perspective, then eyesight regeneration isn’t possible.
I want you to appreciate how damaging isolated artificial blue light is for the eye, both for the mitochondria and opsins which are destroyed, and the destruction of melatonin which is also produced in the eye.
“Neurones of the central nervous system have an absolute dependence on mitochondrial generated ATP. Laboratory studies show that short-wave or isolated blue light (400-480nm) that impinges on the retina affect flavin and cytochrome constituents associated with mitochondria to decrease the rate of ATP formation, stimulate ROS and results in cell death.”
“Long-wave or red light (650-800nm) affects mitochondrial complex IV or cytochrome oxidase to increase the rate of formation of ATP and ROS causing the generation of a number of beneficial factors.”
It’s as clear as day.
Artificial blue light damages the survival of ARPE19 cells because of its impact on the mitochondria. This damage is blunted altogether by red light, having a protective effect.
With all that out of the way, what can you practically do to heal the eyes.
Get rid of your sunglasses and contact lenses.
Any time you artificially manipulate the full light spectrum, problems occur.
Avoid getting LASIK surgery.
This is a controversial one, but I’ve covered this on a Twitter thread.
Get outside more.
We evolved to be outside with full exposure to the full light spectrum. This will also come with the added benefit of viewing far distances and training your eyesight at various levels of distance. You’ll also spend less time away from technology which has damaging artificial light at a fixed distance.
Viewing sunrise and sunset + Sunbathing.
These two are a dynamic duo. Deep red light in the early AM for eye regeneration and skin protection. Midday sunbathing to build more melanin, Vitamin D3.
You can use red light therapy panels as well on the face with eyes closed, but build your exposure to it progressively. Having it on in the background also helps.
Get cold.
Remember how I mentioned the mitochondria in the eye?
Those mitochondria are carnot heat engines that run more efficiently as they get hotter. External cold is a signal for your mitochondria to work harder to produce heat and become more efficient. Build your tolerance to cold.
Block artificial light religiously after sunset.
Dark lensed blue light blockers, red light spectrum bulbs, darkness, candles/general firelight, using f.lux/iris/1 tap zap on all tech. Grab some of these tools with my affiliate links below to either BonCharge or Midwest Red Light Therapy.
If you want to regenerate your eyes, this is mandatory.
Focus on eye exercises.
I’m not well-versed in this area, but simply going outside will create achieve the same objective. You can use the Bates method and many of the other ones to experiment.
I hope you guys found this valuable.

Much love,

In my experience, everyone I've met who's stuck with glasses/contacts over the long term has far greater deterioration over that term. Seem to just weaken the muscles, the equivalent of a wheelchair for the legs when all you needed to do was walk more.
Thanks for the write up Zaid. I’ve taken your advice about early morning exposure to sunlight as well as observing sunsets. It’s amazing how it alters mood in a positive way as well as prepares the body for the day and retiring at night. I rarely use sunglasses anymore. And I can honestly say my vision has improved. At 60, I only use 1.5 “readers” to prevent squinting. And my vision test shows I remain at 20/10. Maybe it’s genetics, but I do think the eyes deserve as much attention as the biceps. Keep up the great work!
