Hey Zaid. I'm really glad you're writing about all this. Thank you! I'm a systems thinker, and I'm convinced we work as systems, not isolated parts. Yet I haven't taken the time to do the deep dive systems context your posts summarize so wonderfully. Very thank for your research and contextualizing.
You're quite welcome. I don't always have the time to read through your entire posts, but every time I do, I feel greatful. Keep up the awesome work, Zaid!
Thank you, so informative. Until I found your work I just didn't know what I didn't know, and more importantly, didn't know that what I thought I knew, was wrong.
Very informative. I thought I knew a decent amount about circadian rhythm but you keep peeling the layers back and teaching me so much more. Timing is everything. Basically we all need to be living outdoors. ☺️. Until then,
I’ve eliminated sunglasses, take a hatless 25 minute walk in the morning as close to sunrise as I can, sunbathe for 30 mins in late morning as often as I can (but I will move this to noon now), and I wear blu blocking glasses after 6pm.
For the past 2 decades I’ve believed the body is a series of systems and each system affects every other system. Nothing works in isolation.
It’s really sinking in. Thank you. I’ve caught every sunrise now for 3 weeks going on 4. I’ve never done this before in my life. I’ve been living with neck pain and after getting Vit D defiancy on my lab results, I put 2 + 2 together and decided to commit to building my solar callus according to guidelines you’ve put forth. Maybe it’s too soon to tell, but my neck pain left…usually this week, before my menstruation the following week (apologies if this is TMI), I experience fatigue, menopausal-like symptoms, sleep disturbance and worsened neck/head pain…for the last 4 years, some months being far worse than others. In these years I have also suffered with acne that I never even had in teenage years.
This particular week and phase in my cycle I am now having minor neck pain, not much fatigue and no insomnia. A very little yoga I’ve done in these last weeks helped a lot I’ve seen, but I don’t know if I can attribute the improvement entirely to that. I’ve also been taking some hormonal supportive herbs, so that could be a factor in the improvement too. But I really think the sun is helping me the most!
I thought I’d share this as it might help some ladies in my predicament.
I do have a question- I already had dry skin living in the desert all these years, but it’s got noticeably worse since I’ve been getting 5 hours of sun each week. My husband noticed it, it’s looking crepey. I wanna know what moisturizer is recommended, that won’t interfere with Vitamin D production. Not doing sunscreen. I’ve tried natural oils like avocado and even lanolin and I just look so dry. My skin is brown by the way and I haven’t had any burning. I also have dark acne spots and a dark mustache that shames me (which I’d been using mineral sunscreen for, but stopped since I started this routine). Is a little mineral sunscreen on my upper lip going to mess everything up? Or hydroquinone to fade scars at night. What about acne products like benzoyl peroxide and clymdamycin…are these known to interrupt Vitamin D?
Awesome to hear you’re sticking with it all! I don’t honestly know about the acne products, but I’m biased towards avoiding them since full spectrum exposure does actually kill the bacteria responsible for acne through UV-A and blue light more specifically. A tiny bit of mineral sunscreen on the lip is definitely not going to mess up the process. In regards to dry skin, you definitely have to keep up with hydration status (more glass bottled spring water or reverse osmosis water that has been re-mineralized with a no microplastic salt like Vera Salt (https://verasalt.co/?ref=ZAID) or a trace mineral drop from Concentrace for example. As for what I use, coconut oil/Meraki Moo (http://www.merakimedicinal.com/ZAIDKDAHHAJ). It’s especially important to aim for more sunbathing in the morning time before UV comes out since red and infrared at that time make urocanic acid and filaggrin within the skin, which are skin proteins that moisturize and protect naturally. Using the MyCircadianapp is very helpful to understand the timing of sunrise, UV-A, UV-B, sunset!
Yes thank you I’ve been using the app! It’s great but now you’ve made me see I wasnt even paying attention to the UV-A part of it. I guess I need some of that too eh. I have however been getting atleast an hour of sunrise but since it’s chilly in the morn I put a blanket over my legs which I see isn’t helpful. Thanku for the links!!! And the info!!!!
As I learn more and more from you, Zaid, I have set up a workstation outdoors so that I am exposed to natural light all day while on my computer. Does this mean I no longer need to worry about the artificial blue light coming from my computer? i'm hoping that, in conjunction with the natural full spectrum, my eyes won't be damaged.

You've got it down. Thanks for sharing. It is so clear.

Well done. Keep it up!
The sun rose
while out of town
but now I’m back
to hear the sound
it’s only here
the sand my ground
where you are
is where I’m found

Correct. No need to worry about the isolated blue light from technology when you’re outside. The solar spectrum drowns it out!
